Was Diana murdered?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/news/newsbeat/061214_diana.shtml
I know we don't really give a shit on a personal level but we cant have MI6 bumping people of like the Al-Fayed suggests.
So: Do you believe the conspiracy theory that Diana/Dodi were murdered?
My vote: No.

I couldn't care a fuck. However, if you did beleive in the conspiracy would that report have done anything for your cynicism?! If there was a big conspiracy this guy, who is after all being paid effectively by the government, isn't exactly going to come out and say that the royal family had her killed with the collusion of MI5. The point about conspiracies is that people who control things (as opposed to people in 'power') tend not to let the truth out.

Agree with you Jack. People in power carrying out investigations is a bit of a scam, see Iraq and Butler report. These things are there for the nation of Sun and Daily Mail readers to think it's all been investigated and concluded.

In any case, this will run and run just like JFK and Monroe.

Issue for me is that the government give credence to such theories by acting in dodgy ways. Good example is what has happened with the Saudi's.

The decision has been taken to drop the case on bungs on arms deals. Government says this has been dropped due to national security when really it boils down to money.

Are the government really saying we shouldn't persue this line of enquiry because we fear we will be attacked by the Saudi's? Have recent events given the Government the right to use 'national security' as an excuse to justify any action?

I say bollocks. Saudi's are cunts who treat their own people/neighbours/women like shit and we should have nothing to do with the them.

To me it stinks of double standards and remindes me of Blair's acceptance speech in 1997 when they said they would be whiter than than white...blah blah blah. Arms deals are shrouded in secrecy because they go right to the heart of government. If BAE lose a contract due to teh investigation, this will affect about 40,000. Hardly critical but then again, I've never understood the need to make money from selling arms to fucked up regimes.

I do realise that between the Saudi's and China, they are bankrolling the US economy which in turn bankroll us but does this means we should bend over and grab our ankles?

We can't keep claiming the moral ground when we keep acting in such dubious ways!

(sorry if 've gone off the subject of Diana somewhat but I wanted to look at the reasons why these ridiculous conspiracy theories are so easily believed)

simple question - do you belive the conspiracy? yes or no answer!

I don't think that there can be an single person on the planet that wasn't expecting a verdict of accidental death. As Jack said, when you've got people that are to all intents and purposes being bankrolled by the people that have a massive interest in the outcome, and the fallout from whatever decision is published, it's impossible to imagine that an impartial view and an unbiased/accurate account of what happened that night has been presented.

I'm under no illusion that this happens all the time with MI6 carrying out orders from the government that go against countless laws of the land, in situations that they consider to be acting in the best interest of our country. The only difference this time is that the job that they did (or didn't do) was against someone that many people felt increadibly strongly about, and also, the son of a very rich man.

Now the other thing that really pisses me off is why did we have to foot the bill for it, surely Al Fayed could have picked up the bill, it's not as if he's not got a few quid to throw around. I guess if that had happened people would have thought that the result was somehow biased...

Sorry Gotlife - No don't believe it.

waxlyrical - I hear what youre saying and I agree that the govt does use MI6 for illegal uses. But kneecapping some IRA members is not the same as killing the Princess of Wales.
I just can't belive that.
Whether there should ever have been an investigation is debatable (I wouldntve bothered, but thats because I dont believe it) - but if we decide to investigate we have to pay.
Are you and Jack saying that you belive they WERE murdered??

I'm not saying that they were definately murdered by the government, all I'm saying is that there was 100% suspicious circumstances surrounding the "accident" and also that the goverment regularly see's it'self as above the law and gets involved in stuff where it's actions are breaking the law. This has to be too much of a coincidence.

Was it not the same day that the Di report came out that it was the first occasion that a British Prime Minister was questioned by the police about a criminal investigation...

I have to stress that I don't really give soapy tit wank about either of them. My Nan died a few days before them and it pissed me off seeing all these cunts (sorry no other word'll do) crying their eyes out for someone they never even met when I was dealing with my grief. It was all so fucking fake.

It made me feel really sorry for her kids as they had to do their grieving in front of a feverish public who were behaving like emotional vultures. I couldn't give a toss about the royals but I even felt sorry for the queen, forget her feelings for Diana, her grandkids were going through all that and all these wankers were going on about her not showing enough emotion. That wasn't a lack of emotion it was a display of diginity but the lowest common denominating, Springer watching, Sun/Mail reading, knuckle dragging, forehead slopping, flag waving masses wouldn't know the difference.

Sorry about that, totally irrelevant I know but a rants a rant!!

I personally think this was an accident, but I think the pertinent point is that if it wasn't I wouldn't be even the least bit surprised.

I'm also far more concerned about our intelligence agencies doing the dirty work for politicians who I wouldn't trust with a sandwich than I am about them bumping off aristocrats. If you think about it, with the latter al least they're improving the gene pool!

It was as simple question!
Do you reckon they were murdered??
I know you don't know, and you don't care, I just wanted to know what your hunch was...WITHOUT a load of anti-governmental rhetoric!!
PS Thanks for the straight answer Chairman!

I quote myself:

"I personally think this was an accident, but I think the pertinent point is that if it wasn't I wouldn't be even the least bit surprised."

Not sure I'm able to give straight yes or no answers, I must watch too much Newsnight!
